WORK, THE FIGHT, AND PASSION BELGIAN BRONZES FROM THE TURN OF THE 20TH CENTURY. Gift from Philippe and Françoise Mongin

29 JUNE — 22 SEPT. 2019

Presented to the public for the first time, this recent donation by a Parisian couple of collectors of several bronze works by Constantin Meunier (1831-1905), Jef Lambeaux (1852-1908) and Joseph Witterwulghe (1883-1967), has specific meaning next to the new sculpture gallery where among others, the question of decorative sculpture in private interiors or the theme of monuments to work and workers are addressed around the studies of Dalou, Rodin, Meunier, and Bouchard. Their presentation echoes the Jules Adler retrospective simultaneously being shown in the museum, and enhances a season dedicated to committed images of the humble world of the working class in modern art.
