Jean-François Fouilhoux: The Song of the Earth

6 November 2021 — 6 February 2022

Jean François Fouilhoux is one of the rare Western artists recognised as a Master of Ceramics in China. For over 30 years, his art and style has been devoted to mastering Celadon pottery.

It was in these thousand-year-old, delicate ceramics that Jean-François Fouilhoux carved his genius. His art is akin to calligraphy, with his pencil a flexible blade he could bend at will, and a clay wall as a medium.

“There are two approaches to my work,” he explains. “The first is the material, the Chinese Celadon ceramics that triggered thirty years of research to master this technique, which traps the light and gives off incredible reflections. The second is my way of sculpting. We can compare it to calligraphy, to signatures left in the earth, with the same nerves, tension, dynamism and characteristic expressions of beautiful writing. »

La Piscine will present the latest pieces by this exceptional artist.

Curator: Sylvette Botella-Gaudichon

The design was made possible thanks to generous support from the Flanders Colours range of paints distributed by Tollens.
