NAIME MERABET. LIFE ON THE THRESHOLD, AN INTIMATE JOURNEY ACROSS ROUBAIX

Exhibition from 6 June to 6 September 2026

With a series of sensitive photographs, Naime Merabet explores Roubaix, the city of his childhood, capturing the poetry of everyday life from the thresholds, i.e. doors, windows, crossings. Delving into his Algerian memories and local roots, he pursues a quest for identity with a blend of urban wanderings, unexpected encounters and silent dialogues. Built around a triptych, the series tackles discreet social encounters, the touching presence of the elderly and the ever-present signs of social exclusion. The artist uncovers a proud, modest city that has too often been stigmatised and yet is profoundly alive. Inspired by sociological studies, Pistoletto’s mirrors and a quote from Cartier-Bresson – “a cold eye with a warm heart” – he puts forward a humble, attentive perspective informed by instinct and a listening ear.

Curator: Amandine Delcourt, head of documentation, La Piscine – André Diligent Museum of Art and Industry.

Free exhibition that can be viewed in the Thérèse Constans garden.
